Great Expectations (summary) Summary The novel, Great Expectations, presents the story of a spring chicken boy growing up and becoming a gentleman. He must learn to appreciate people for who they are, not thrash out them for who they arent. Nicknamed flog, Philip Pirrip, the main character, goes through many changes in his personality, as he is influenced by various people. Pip experiences tough time as a boy and a juvenile man, besides at the end he has become a fine, esprit de corps young man. The novel starts out with Pip feeding an escapee from jail.
